Okay I do understand the attach information that you provided. But the question I still have remaining is do I need to have the table structures defined in the database I am attaching the mdf file to?

Sorry, I meant to answer that question. The MDF files contain the table strucure information. You do not create a database and then attach a file. Attaching the file creates the database with the same objects, users, permissions, etc. as defined in the detached database. Terry L. Broadbent
