If all I want to be able to do it remote administration do I need to add the Terminal Service role?

It is my understanding that remote administration is already turned on with a default installation and that the only reason to add the TS role would be for application serving. Am I correct?

If I am correct.... if I did add this role by mistake and then removed it why can't I term serv into the machine anymore? I see the TS service running and it is listening for RDP.

Thanks!

got it!!!

Ok.... Here is what I figured out and boy do I feel like a dumbass. I guess I should have RTFM. [hammer]

•‘Terminal Server’ mode (formerly Application Server mode in Windows 2000 Server).

•‘Remote Desktop for Administration’ (formerly Remote Administration mode).

So after I removed Terminal Services I just had to check the box that said "Allow Remote Connections to this server" under Control Panels > System > Remote (tab)

RDP as remote admin is called in 2003 server is not turned on by default but you can enable it in system, it doesn't require Terminal Server to be installed.
