terminal server

Just now setup my first win2k server. previously I was running peer to peer, mosly 98 machines. NT tech is very new to me but computers are not. I have attached the server to the network without domain at present. I can see the server from other machines on the "network".

I have Terminal Server installed on the server. TS is setup for remote admin only not to be able to run programs (does this circumvent any licensing issues??).

I have terminal services client on a workstation (win98). When I run TS Client I see the serverbut when I try to connect I time out after a few min.

Thoughts suggestions etc welcome

well, first make sure the service is running on the server.

2nd i would try accessing the server by ip address rather than the name in the list

if that works, check your wins and dns settings that could be whats messing you up

The Terminal Services Client shows the server in the list of "available servers"..... I assume this indicates that the service is, or was, running on the server???

Tried using the machine ip in the client connection manager but no luck there either.

The Terminal Services Client shows the server in the list of "available servers Don't count on it. Pc's are funny little beasts. Can you ping the server? Do like drphat said and go to the server and make sure the TS service is running. If it is, trying connecting by IP address. Try setting up a new session in the connection manager, and use the ip address. Glen A. Johnson

can you connect to it while sitting on the box itself?

Try editing the hosts file, using the entry;

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [IP of termserver] YourServerName

Now try to connect...
