I have a shared directory called \\servername\userprofiles set up on a Terminal Server where I would like all the user profiles to be stored.

In AD, for my test user, I set up the Terminal Services profile path as \\servername\userprofiles\username. I also set up a GPO to set the path for TS roaming profiles.

When I attempt to log in, I get an error message telling me that "Windows can not locate the server copy of your roaming profile and is attempting to log in with a temporary profile".

Any thoughts to why this is not working would greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Scott

Make sure the user has rights to the \\servername\userprofiles share.

I double checked and the user has full control for the shared directory.

What I would probably do is set up the roaming profile for the test user through AD Users and Computers - Terminal Services Profile tab.
If it works from there, then you can probably start looking at the GPO as the culprit.
If it doesn't work from there, we'll have to keep investigating.
Thanks.

I was able to get it working with the roaming profiles using the GPO. However, it created a profile under c:\documents and settings\username. Then it also created a profile under \\servername\userprofiles\username.domain. Even though it created the profile in the shared directory, it is still using the local profile after I log in.

This is normal behavior with roaming profiles. It will copy the contents from the shared location to C:\Documents and Settings\Username. It will use that directory while logged on. Any changes you make during that session (for example, add an icon to the desktop) gets written to C:\Documents and Settings\Username. After you log off, the settings will get written to the roaming profile path.

I see. However, that isn't what I was after. What I really wanted is to have the local profile on d:\userprofiles.

Sorry I misunderstood you. I have never tried to move the TS local profile. I'm hoping someone can chime in here to let us know if this is possible.

No problem, my mistake since I mentioned I set up the roaming profiles. Thanks for the help!
