Please can any TS expert advise:
I have a win2k server (sp4) configured as a terminal server. Users connect to the ts server and run 1 application.
I would like all clients (NT4.0/2k/xp) that connect to the server thru a ts session to have the option of printing to any networked printer that appears on the clients printer list (when i state 'networked printer' a printer the user has browsed the LAN for and added to the printer list on the client pc). Is this possible?
The only printers that appear for selection when a user has a ts session open are printers that are stored in the users profile on the ts server? I have created these for the user by logging on locally to the server as the user, browsing for a networked printer then adding that printer to their print list.
I have read that when using RDP5.0, automatic mapping of client printers (local or networked) is taken care of?

Please respond if you can help
Thanks

Local printers are taken care of, but you still need a to either manually map the network printers or put the mapping into a login script.

Thanks for the response devastator. However, please expand:-

1)If I am to manually map networked printers as you suggest, please advise:

i)when the user starts their ts session, only the application that I have made available appears. users cannot browse for networked printers from within the app. hence how do the users manually map?
if they do so before the session starts on the client pc then they have the original problem where mapped printers on the client do not appear

i am most probably missing something pretty important here regarding TS - can you explain. thanks again

If you are reffering to their local printer list on their client PC's that have been mapped to network printers, you have to enable this on the server or client side RDC options to "Map Local Printers". If they are on the same network as the TS though, why not just physically logon as each user to the TS and map the network printers to the TS profile or am I missing completely what you are trying to do or have tried???

Hi there

THere are a few other areas you may wish to consider. in the properties of the users, click on the environment tab and ensure the connect client printers is checked.

Also the drivers on the client machine need to be that same as the server machine.

Say you have a WIn2K TS box and a Win9x client. the two drivers used for printing to a HP1200 are not the same. Set up a 1200 on the server as if you were going to print to LPT1 local port. When you install the printer, you are prompted to add other drivers, do so.

Then having added the drivers to the machine, you can take the new printer off line so it does not appear to users searching the printer folder (or alter permissions).

As for other network printers, the previos chap is correct to script in any other printer.
