hi

I have installed TS application mode on one w2k3 server and TS licensing on another w2k3 server and activated it but it only seems to issue the temp liciences not the full ones. now they have run out of the grace period so i cant use TS. how do i get the "real" ones to issue. i tried to reactivate but it says alreday done.

any ideas?

thanks

John

Is the other w2k3 server a domain controller? I had this same problem. My situation had a 2000 server. It wasn't a DC and the licenses were given out as temporary. To get around the licensing issue I added the w2k server as an additional dc and redid the licensing and it has worked like a charm since.

Have you installed the licenses on your license server? What type of clients are you using? What licenses did you buy, user or device licenses? Are you running a domain?

hi

no its not a domian controller - does it need to be? it looks like it only serches DC's when i start up licensing.

yes ive installed the licenses, i bought per user and i am running an domain.

thanks

John

If you are running a domain, the licenses need to be issued to domain user accounts rather than local ones. You may have to either run it as a DC (as a shortcut) or tell the TS that it is supposed to issue the licenses to Domain users. This sometimes happens if you install the licenses before it is a member of the domain.

i dont really want to make it a DC and installed it when them when it was a member of the domain.

how do i tell it to issue licenses to domian users?

thanks

John

I do not recall what has to happen, but I have talked to Microsoft about it before. You may want to call the Microsoft 800 number for Termial Server Licensing. I have called before and I was on the phone with a tech in like 2 minutes. That TS line is very quick in my experience.

TS licensing has been a pain since its inception in 2000. There are some settings in the connection properties that you can adjust.
