Hi experts,

I have a Stand alone Y2K server (connected to Lan)with TS on it (just for 5 users using some application), this server also have an external modem

I want to enable one of the users to dial in to the Terminal server from home..
I managed to get the user PC to login to the server by dial up, the problem is I can't Ping the server I'm logged to!
from what I undrstand I should have a domain for this server but I don't, can I manage to dial in without a Domain? what am I doing wrong?

thanks a lot!

hi,
I have never tried to ping server from modem-connected
terminal, but I belive it is normal that you cannot ping the server.

I think that the domain, is not a problem.

Your terminal (PC) is not LAN-connected or connected
to a provider in TCPIP by modem (PPP).

I belive you can connect, by modem, to a server, with
WIN95 without tcpip configured.

Think you PC as a Serial-terminal wired to a
UNIX box, on COM1 (tty0).

bye

So you're using RAS for the dial-up connection? How is the server allocating addresses? This may be where the problem lies, your client computer (the one dialing up) may be getting an IP on a different subnet than your server. Check the distribution of IP's on the RRAS server, I'm sure that's what the problem is. sdibias

Also make sure the clients TCP/IP properties are setup prperly (depending on how you set it up). sdibias

Hi,
The stand alone TS-computer is mulithomed.
One subnet for LAN. Ex. 192.168.0.100
One subnet for RAS. Ex. 172.16.0.100
The home computer will get IP in the second subnet.
This computer can ping 172.16.0.100

If you try to ping 192.168.0.100 the reply may not be routed back to the home computer.

To silve this problem check:
- Routing table on the RAS server while homecomputer is connected. (command: route print)
- Then the RAS server is not a member of the domain, it will not register the dail-in computer in DNS.
- Make lmhost files.

Good luck
Wibbe
