telnetd config question

Can anyone tell me how to configure telnetd to allow linemode. MAN pages say that you can configure it they just do not mention how to do it.

It does mention the /etc/services file but I don't have any options in that file.

It also says
DO LINEMODE - Only sent if telnetd is compiled with support for linemode, and requests that the client do line by line
processing.

Does that mean I need anouther compiled version?

Using Red Hat Linux 9.

Any thoughts helpful.

Uh, would you please 'splain your need for telnet and linemode? I'm confused at what you're trying to solve....
