hi all,

a quick question (quick for one asking, at least). Telnet service is disabled on my computer. However, if I type "login" in a command prompt window, I get a "Welcome to Microsoft Telnet Server" banner. After displaying the banner the prompt "goes back to normal" (meaning I can type in some other command).

Is this how it is supposed to work? I thought that if Telnet is disabled, there would be no response in the command window.

What you're doing is running the LOGIN.CMD default telnet server script in the windows\system32 folder, which paints the login banner, sets your current directory to %HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH% and then will try to run your default login script.
