Telnet Issue and TightVNC Issue

I can't figure it out, i have about 200 pc's on my network and three of htem aren't getting windows update from my SUS server. i used to also use tightvnc to remote into these pc's and now i can't nor can i telnet in? is this a virus/trojan horse? To me it sounds like malware??????

Check the firewall settings in Windows Firewall. I know for RealVNC you need to add a port 5900 to the exceptions list to make it work on the network

Have you compared an IPConfig /all from a working PC to one of the dodgy PCs to make sure they have the correct settings.
Also how about the Proxy settings?
Can they access the internet ok?
Can you ping them via name and IP address?

yes, yes, yes and yes??? i know that pinging and telenting are going over two different ports but i just can't figure out what i must be missing?

Can you map to these computers?
It really sounds like some sort of firewalling going on?
Do you get any error messages when you try to telnet?
Any clues in the Event Viewer.
If you are still using the windows firewall try the logging feature in the advanced properties to see if something looks wrong.

i was able to map to each of these pc's without a hitch? could it be some sort of virus or malware that is only blocking the telnet port? but also all three of these are not getting antivirus updates or the windows updates from our sus? i'm guessing that these all corrilate.....thanks for your replies "teckystuff" let me know if you have anything else under the hat.

It worth checking them for viruses and malware - especially since you say they havent been getting their virus updates.

Been there, done that. I ran Spybot, Adaware, Ewido, HiJack this and did a virus scan??? This is quickly getting dicerning.
