I am trying to figure the address range on the private network address of 192.168.0.0 with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. Would it not be 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.254? Also, Microsoft recommends using 172.16.0.0 with a subnet mask of 255.240.0.0. Why would this be?

Also, can anyone recommend an online resouce to help me with these kinds of problems as I am helping to change a class c network to class b.

I'm kinda new to configuring network addresses so thanks for the help.

The private network of 192.168.0.0 (network address) with a mask of 255.255.0.0 would have a broadcast address of 192.168.255.255. The addresses in between would be usable.

Not sure why Microsoft would recommend a network of 172.16.0.0/12. That would be a network from 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255 with 1,048,574 hosts.
