Task ownership randomly reassigned itself back to who created it.

My return activities are usually created by the sales team and then assigned to me. However, sometimes I create them. I was shocked to see My Activities shrink from 30 to 11. I checked a couple I could remember and noticed that the ownership had changed back to the individual sales guys.

Does anyone know why ownership would automatically revert to the user that created the activity?

Also, I noticed a weird quirk. There was an activity that I had assigned to another user, but it still showed up in My Activities. This happened with the Activity Type Phone Call but not with activities created as tasks.

Anyone have an answer for this?
 
It's a very basic installation. There aren't any bells or whistles.
