task manager disabled 1

I think I got some kind of virus that did really quirky things. Like removing my games and Microsoft Office. But it did some really annoying things. When I press Ctrl-Alt-Del it says "task manager has been disabled by yor administrator". I AM the administrator. Also, when I go to change the automatic update settings, I can't change anything. It's like it thinks I'm not the admin. Help!

Sounds a bit like spyware or trojan issues. You might want to run HiJackThis first, to see what BHO's and startup items are trying to load. You can get it from

Actually, HiJackThis should be run last, letting many of the automated utilities like Spybot, AdAware, Windows Defender, Ewido & others do most (if not all) of the work.

Okay. What happens when you run these utilities?

They can clean up many known types of malware without the need of posting huge HJT logs that someone needs to manually read, analyze & research.

This sounds like a policy issue almost, or spyware. I'd try the spyware thing first.
