Tapes being marked as read-only during backup

I have a Networker 7.1 for Windows 2003 job backing up a remote server. The tapes are 130GB DLT's. The job backs up about 5 gigs or so, then displays this message:

Tape2 moving: fsf 6: drive status is The end of data was reached.

Then it marks the tape read-only and nothing else can write to the tape. If I manually set the tape to "appendable" and restart the backup, I immediately get the same error, and it marks the tape read-only again.

I have other jobs running on this drive under different Groups, and they all work fine.

Thanks in advance for any help,
David

Sounds like the tape is duff.
Confirm th firmware levels of the drive are ok first.
Try de-gaussing the tape and then label it again.
