I have a tapechanger, with with the tape raid option installed, that currently does RAID backups nightly. I want to use this changer to do a tapecopy of an LTO from another location and cannot get it to work. I have 1 group configured, a RAID 1 group, called GROUP0.

When I type the following:

tapecopy -sgroup0 -dgroup0 -tBACKUP -b

I get the following error:

************************************************************

************************************************************

03/24 11:13:50 THIS COPY MUST BE DONE WITHIN A CHANGER TO WORK.

What do you mean remote location?
Bboth Devices have to see by Arcserve

eg if you want to tapecopy tape from group0 to group1
then Arcserve should see both media then you can do tapecopy

Can't use TapeCopy with a RAID group, and as mohamdr pointed out source and destination groups need to be different.

When I say remote location I mean that I take the tape from an LTO drive at a remote location and drive it back to the location where my autoloader is and stick it in the drive.

Per Arcserve tech support, as well as the documentation on TapeCopy, the source and destination groups CAN be the same. It is not clear about RAID groups however...

if u have tape RAID Option installed, that means the two drives will work as one. u should not be able to use them for tapecopy.
