Server Info:
Windows 2000 Server
ARCserve for Windows 9.01 with path level 5 applied
Tape Drive is a Seagate STT20000A

Device Info:
<0> atapi
-> WDC80 0BB-00DKA0 (one of our hard drives)
<1> atapi
-> Mitsumi CD-ROM
-> Seagate STT20000A
<2> adpu160m
<3> aac
-> Adaptec Array
-> Adaptec Management

Problem:
Each night at 9:00PM there is a scheduled job to make a backup of the entire system. Each morning, when I check the system it shows that the job is still ACTIVE and the Job Status screen shows that the Tape is still "Updating..."

Activity Log: (I dont think there is much there. Most of it is just from when I finally cancelled the job that was "Updating...")

Any thoughts anyone?

Could be absolutely anything - but I am not a fan of running IDE/ATAPI drives - especially on the same controller as a CD-ROM.

I also have seen problems when using the same IDE bus for both CD ROM and tape drive.

Go into the Windows Device Manager and make sure the tape drive is disabled and then restart the system.

Install the Tape Engine update.
QO59768 7.8 MB 09/15/04 NT -BAB V9.01 DEVICE SUPPORT UPDATE 4

while you are there install this also
QO62767 22.5MB 12/30/04 NT -SECURITY UPDATE FOR ARCSERVE DISCOVERY SERVICE

Hey guys.

Thanks for the tip. I will not be able to mess with the drive until Friday. I will unhook the CD Rom and also apply those updates.

Will let you know what I find! Thanks again!

Hey guys!

Thanks for both of your input! I was able to unplug the IDE CD-Rom drive from the tape backup chain and then executed the ARCserve updates that were suggested. I also disabled the Windows driver for the tape drive.

Now the program runs without a hitch. Well, except for a few files that arent backed-up due to being in use....but that is yet another item to tackle.

Thanks again guys!
