Hi there,

Arcserve 11 running on w2k server direct connected dlt8000 tape drive with dlt40/80 tape.

I enabled the option "eject after backup job" but the tape was partially eject - left panel's LED all off, but right panel's LED still stay on "tape in use", which I can't lift the handle at all.

I need to press the eject button on the tape drive then right panel's LED will change to "operate handle" & I can remove the tape.

Just wondering if this is normal for AS11? How could I fix it? Many thanks!

You must have one of the later firmware versions on that tape drive. This is what a Compaq tech told me when I called about a failed Compaq DLT 8000 drive:

The earlier version of the firmware would send the eject command to the tape drive, and you would find the drive in the next morning with the Operate Handle light lit. However, they found that if the drive sits like that for several hours, the drive overheats. So in later firmware versions, the Operate Handle light goes on for about 10 minutes. After that, the Tape In Use light goes on instead. When you press the Unload button, the drive goes into the Operate Handle state immediately.

Now let me make another note. If it takes more than a second or so for the Operate Handle light to go on after pressing Unload, then you've got something else on your hands. With what I'm describing, the drive should be ready to go into the Operate Handle mode, it should not have to rewind the tape.

It got this using Arcserve 2k. I haven't hooked up one of these drives to AS 11 yet.
