I have a problem restore in that the tape is reported as being in use when it is requested and refuses to mount.
I have left the restore running for hours to see if the message times out but it doesn't.
The exact message is 'Media id BUxxxx on server <servername> is in use, waiting for it'.
Anyone have any idea why this happens?

Marc.

You need to do some investigation on the status of this tape. Where is it, what it's status.

We are trying to manually mount the tape now to see if this will fix the problem. There may be a problem with it as the last restoer we did took down the drive!

Then my money is on a bad tape.

Last restore downed drive?
Do you have an ACS robot? We had the same issue when ACSLS had a tape in "in transit" status. NBU, the robotic inventory, and visual inspection showed the tape as present and in the Library. From ACSLS we had to delete the tape, (not the same as MM delete)all this did was update the status, and an ACSLS audit of the cell fixed the status. Don't know if this solution fits your problem....

It probably is a tape problem. Its a real pain in the arse this one as it uses NDMP file access so it goes through hours of doing nothing before finally getting to this tape. I still haven't completed the restore!
