I just installed Networker 7.2 on windows 2003. I ran the jbconfig for our Overland Powerloader. When I open Networker and edit the \\.\Tape0 device the media type is sdlt. The media type for \\.\Tape1 is SDLT320. The tapes I use are superdlt1 160/320.
Networker will successfully write to Tape1 but I get an error when trying to write to Tape0. It will load the volume, then I get the error message "media warning:\\.\Tape0 moving:tape_bsf bsf failed: drive status is CANNOT READ MEDIUM-INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT. Is there anyway to reset the media type for this device without having to remove the autochanger and try to reintall?

jbedit can probably help but i never used this routine.

Most likely the easies´t way is to reinstall the AC.

I used jbedit to remove the tape device and the database entries (required if you want to re-add the device with different parms). Then I added a "new" tape device using jbedit and set the media type to sdlt320. Didn't help. Got the same error messages. Plus the drive is now exhibiting errors loading and unloading tape. I'm leaning towards a hardware malfunction now. Thanks you 605..

Look for an up-to-date driver first. NW does not use private device drivers, only jukebox drivers.

Another option is to change the driver mechanism for the device. In the Configuration tab, change CDI from "SCSI commands" to "not used".

But most important, make sure that the RSM service is disabled.

OK, turns out there are 2 different tape drives in the box. It shipped with the SDLT in the Tape 0 position. Later the previous admin added another tape device that is an SDLT320. The sdlt originally in it only used 110/220 tapes. Hence read/write errors with the 160/320's. Thanks for the help.
