tag name in custom ctrls

Tag name is used in user ctrls but not in custom ctrls .i went through the book but i could not read between the lines .plz reply me to know the difference .

what i mean to say is , tag name is an attribute and is used in user ctrls but not in custom ctrls .It is given in the book which even i could not get . The line mentioned in the book was : tagname shouldnt be used for custom ctrl becoz the ctrls class name doubles as its tagname .
hope i think i could make the point little clear .
