Hi
i have a windows 2003 server with a very full c: drive
on investigation its the system volume information folder thats hogging all the spare drive space.
as far as i can find out this is the location for the system restore points (the same as xp).
but i can't find were i turn off system restore in windows 2003.
i need to delete the older restore points to free up some drive space.
any suggestions would be very much appreciated

If you turn off system restore, and turn it back it on, it should purge old restore points. Should be:
Start>Control Panel>Performance & Maintenance>System Applet>

1. On the System Applet, Click the System Restore tab,
2. Check the Turn off System Restore box,
3. Click OK, then click Yes. This will initiate the restore point purging process.
4. To re-enable System Restore, clear the Turn-Off System Restore check box from the same location

Let us know your results!

Hi Xaqte,

thanks for the reply.

i can't seem to find the system restore option in the system applet.

i've seen this option in XP but can't locate a similar feature in windows 2003 server.

My bad, you are right. It appears as if 2003 Server doesn't have "restore points". Sorry if I mislead you.

No worries xaqte,

i found my solution anyway.
shadow copy was enabled for one of the drives & it was using the c: as its store location.
my c: is now liberated.

in case anyone is looking for the option to delete system restore points in windows 2003. the option is program files - accessories - system tools - disk cleanup -advanced.
the option is greyed out when i get to it but now you know were to find it.
hope this helps
