How, if I dont know the name of the program, do I stop a program from starting up and being active in the system tray?

start> run and type: msconfig
and then click the start up tab and check and un check the things you dont want

That only disables it from running at startup. If you no longer want it at all, uninstall it from add & remove programs instead.
