I have a copy of Veritas backup exec 9 that's been laying around the office for a while unused. I've been looking for a good way to back up my IIS ftp server. My question is, will Veritas allow me to backup not only folders with permissions intact, but users as well? In other words, if my ftp server crashed could I use veritas to restore all the folders as well as local or AD users so that I could have the ftp back up and running on a different server farely quick without having to recreate all my users by hand? TIA

I have never actually managed to restore the system state with BE and trust me I have tried.

In the end I gave up and did the following to get the system state backed up and restored.

On the machine you want to backup schedule NTBackup to backup the system state to a file on the local hard drive.

Then let BE backup the machine like normal.

When you need to restore you firt restore the machine with BE then once you have windows up and running with the data restored, boot into Active Directory recovery mode and restore the system state with NTbackup from the file on the hard drive.

That always seem to work 100% but for its to much hassle especially with installing OS and possibly SQL server etc.

So we are moving towards buyin Acronis True Image that is really easy to use and provided a BareMetal restore in no time. (sorry for going a bit of topic....)
