I was working on a friend's Windows XP machine. He used to have dial up, but now he has cable modem. Now, occassionally a "System Standby Failed" message comes up, which says, "The device driver for the 'Communications Port (COM2) device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver." I went into the device manager, uninstalled COM2 and rebooted the PC. The PC automatically reinstalled COM2, and the "System Standby Failed" message still came up. The properties of COM2 were: Manufacturer (standard port type); Location: on Intel (R) 82801BA LPC Interface Controller; Driver: Microsoft. There was an option to automatically update the driver, so I did that. However, after trying, the "Hardware Update Wizard" said, "The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed." Just for yucks, I went to Microsoft.com and installed any critical updates. I am still getting the "System Standby Failed" message. Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated--THANKS!
