A friend installed print server software (and print server box) which I now want to get rid of (winxp/pro). I plan on doing a system restore picking a time b/4 the installs.

My question is, will the restore unintall the programs or should I do 'control panel|start or remove porograms' and then do the system restore? thanks

As I think about it, the same question applies to my 98 machines, but using scanreg/restore.

A system restore will not remove the programs! What you will do is a system restore and then the programs that u do not want you will manually have to delete through add/remove programs!

Thanks for the reply Screwqe. It was what I expected, but you've got me wondering: If I do the restore first, won't the registry entries for the un-need program(s) be taken away and cause add/remove confusion? I would have thought that you would respond with do add/remove and then restore??? plz clearify which comes first. (I'm tired of having left over junk in the registry and wnat to do it right for once.)[ponder]

OR maybe it really does not REALLY matter if the goal is to have a working network, because i'm not sure of all the programs to uninstall.

System Restore can remove programs as long as they use a "restorept.api-compliant" installer to trigger a restore point. See
You are correct in thinking that removing your program first is the best course of action before doing a restore. This will reduce the chances of a problem occuring. When installing programs in the future, always create a manual restore point first. You will then be able to go back to a point previous to when you installed the software easily.

Scanreg or System Restore are not able to read your mind and they will automatically revert many other settings beside just the print server software. Use the Add or Remove applet (or any supplied uninstall.exe) to uninstall your software.

thanks for the replys..
outonalimb - clad to hear I was right on that one - I used the print server admin program's uninstall program. thanks for the refernce.

linney - however, my reason for the system restore was I'm not sure what else was changed (inn the area of networking). I now know that 'Client Services for Newtare' was added, which is preventing my 'fast switching' problems. (I'm working on getting rid of that, but could use any pointers you may have.) I want to keep a siimple 3 computer LAN, so want tobe careful. I hane not cune much since the newwork work was done, and hopefully can live with un/re-setting things. i just want things back the way they were.

outonalimb -
