Hi, I downloaded a client's file db file to work on for him, I double clicked on the file to open it. Now, I get prompted for a user name 'mine" and password... I have never setup workgroup permissions on my system since i don't need it.. none of my files open without me getting propted... I renamed the sytem.mdw file to xsystem.mdw and now I can open my files... problem is that my version of access now says it is registered to his company??? I did not think that is what the system.mdw file did??? Any Suggestions?

Try creating a new System.mdw file:

run C:\WINDOWS\system32\WRKGADM.EXE

The workgroup administrator has a create button in it.

As for the original file, tell your client you need a copy of the MDW file he used.
