Started locking up when using Excel - if I tried to highlight cells that were greater than a page width. Screen would go bland and monitor would loose vidoe input.

When I attemtped to repair-uninstall Office the system would lockup when attempting to find installed files.

When the system locks up I usually get a blank screen and the monitor looses any video input, maybe suggesting a problem with the video card. I have tried another card but the same problem with that one.

I have run Norton fault finding software on all hardware with no indication of any problems

The system will lockup with other programmes but there is no pattern to these. I have run Virus software but sods law states that system locks up while this is running.

Could anyone point me in the right direction

Thanks and Regards

Try this for starters take the cover off of your pc and run a fan on your system and try to do what you are doing again indications to me sound like you cpu i sheading for cpu heaven so try and keep it cooler let us know what happened.

If you have an extra I would try putting a test hard drive to it. You could run a scandisk and a surface scan on the one that locks. Does the mouse lock too? Try what grygst76 said first.
Good Luck and keep us posted

Thanks to you both for your assistance. Turned out to be that CPU. I was unable to cool it sufficiently to stop it locking up but I have managed to find a replacement and all is working fine at the moment(touch wood).

Many Thanks and Best Regards
