I have an HP Pavilion refurbished computer. I noticed in my system.ini under passwords that there are 2 names I do not know. The two lines read
mhankins=C:\windows\mhankins.pwl
bgarrido=C:\windows\bgarrido.pwl
then there is a line with my name. Is this suss? Should I uncheck these? Operating win 98 Thanks in advance P

They are password files which keep track of your internet access passwords, etc. I imagine that the other two are just left over from the previous owners, it means that Windows has not been installed from scratch again. It should be quite safe to delete the other two, but not yours.

BTW it is also worth checking the c:\windows directory to make sure they are not there also. If they are, just delete them.

Purd, may as well go to Control Panel|Users.
Click out Users and see if there are users other than yourself, like, mhankins and bgarrido. If yes, remove those as well.
