Hi guys and gals.
I have an Openserver system that will boot into single-user mode fine. When I do an init 2, (or any other init besides 1), the system freezes. At that point I get nothing but a blinking cursor.

Some possibilities I was considering were:
1) a corrupt non-root filesystem

2) a corrupt inittab or ioctl.syscon file

Has anyone else ran across this specific problem? What did it turn out to be? I have to go take a look at this system first thing in the morning (Pacific time), so I'm hoping there are some East Coasters out there reading this.

Is it trying to go into X?
what changed....rebuilt kernel? rebuilt kernel environment?

what is the last thing in /usr/adm/messages ?
/usr/adm/syslog ?

for #1....try and mount your filesystems in single user mode.

for #2....depends on what changed

it seems u can work in single user then

For "1) a corrupt non-root filesystem"
try mountall. i u r able to mount all. it seem then point 2 is valid

For "2) a corrupt inittab or ioctl.syscon file"
- ioctl.syscon, if ^D does bot work. (probably it isnot) rememvoe ioctl.sysycon and reboot. it will recreate/relink

for inittab check TA # 105591 at
