System Error

I keep getting an error message from windows. can someone give me some advice on how to get rid of it?
the error is:

SysFader:explorer.exe-Application Error

The instruction at "0x77f57ec4" referenced memory at "0x00000067". The memory could not be "written".

Click Ok to cancel the program.

I click ok and it wipes everything off the screen then puts it back.
Can someone tell me what the message means and how to stop it?

They seem to point to turning off Transition Effects in IE and Effects in Display Properties.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

I've seen this forum before and I have tried it. I've seen multiple forums suggesting that it could be anything from my sound card to viruses to spyware to corrupted files in windows xp. I still get the same message and was wondering if anyone has other suggestions.

I am aware of the fact that you are having the issue in Explorer and not IE, but it is the DLLs I am concerned with.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates (no problem if you substitute them with SP2) but your files and programs will be untouched.

Thanks Linney. according to what you've sent me they all have something in common. all of them is running athlon processors. I guess I will have to give AMD a call to figure this problem out. maybe they have more information or a patch for this.
