System Drive getting full

We have a Windows 2K server and Exchange server installed on a 6 Gb system drive with a RAID 5 configuration. Gradually the drive is filling up, and although not too bad at the moment I would like to see if I can take steps to keep a fair amount of space. We have already moved the transaction logs onto the Data drive.

Does anyone have any ideas about how we can make more space. Will compressing older program files have an effect on performance. I was wondering about things like resizing partitions but am not sure if that is possible with the RAID configuration.

What I would have liked is to have had Exchange set up on D: but it was set up on the system drive at the beginning.

Is it too late to move it, or can it still be done?

Run the Exchange Performance Optimizer and let it move the databases for you. Be advised that the Exchange services will shut down while this is happening.

Great, will look at doing that. Will I have to change any other references or paths or anything like that manually, or will that happen automatically?

Brilliant, sounds like just what we need. One last thing, if I move it to another drive on the DC, will I need to install any exchange admin stuff onto the system drive to get all the exchange tabs in Active Directory Users and Computers?

Ooops. I'm sorry Kathy, I stupidly assumed Exchange 5.5...no worries though. For 2K, instead of the Performance Optimizer to change database paths, you can use System Manager to drill down into the Storage Groups area. Once there, go to the Properties of your First Storage Group and simply change the path of your databases. Forgive me if this is not so precise as I'm not in front of my systems right now....and no, you won't have to re-install any admin stuff....

Have just looked and it seems performance optimizer is no longer there in Win 2K, and all this has to be done through the Active Directory Users and Computers management snap in. Apparently I cannot move the whole of Exchange server, and am not sure if I can move the individual mail boxes without the server. Any ideas?

Nope. It moves the entire database (so that includes the mailboxes) to the new drive. You can do this for the PRIV and the PUB. E2K will unmount, move, then remount to complete this process.
