System Bootstrap Banner Looping

Hello....I have a 2501 router that I am using as a frame relay switch. I powered it on this afternoon and the following banner just loops....any ideas??

"System Bootstrap, Version 5.2(8a), Release Software
Copyright (c) yada yada yada"

Possible IOS has been corrupted . Maybe try loading a fresh version on it .

Does it ever try to decompress the image?

Thanks guys. Doesn't appear so Burt, just loops continuously. Not sure how to break the loop or if I can.

Very weird. I left the router in its looping state and after about 3-4 minutes I got the user mode prompt. My IOS and start-up is intact. I performed a reload and the router came up normal.

Wonder if it was trying to do an ip domain-lookup or load from tftp...what's the config register set at?

I powered off the router this morning for giggles and when I powered it back on I got the same looping result. I was able to break through by pressing the pause/break key and interrupt the loop. I got the rom > prompt. From there I was able to get the router to its normal working state. Right now its happy. Perhaps I have a hardware issue? Time to upgrade??
