Does any one using sysprep to do an image on the machine? I'm using sysprep to reghost a machine. But when I reghost it on a Different computer it will have the same Computer name. Is there a command or something to change it in the process of ghosting the image onto a different computer?

thank you
tony

You can either rename it after the imaging, or change the settings in your answer files to the pc name you want to use. Please let Tek-Tips members know their posts were helpful. Thanks!

I know I can do that. But i want it to change while the imaging take place. If you use norton ghost then you can use ghostwalk to do that.

The line...

ComputerName = "8"

...added to SysPrep.inf will generate a random Computer Name for each system - is this what you want? Heath

well I'm not try to generate anything random. I need to rename all of the computer that will be ghosted. As you know you can't have the computer name the same for every machine. What am I trying to do is ghost the image on to the new computer and before connect to the network I can change the computer name. that's all I want to do

Ok then - if you leave the "ComputerName" out of SysPrep.inf it will stop and prompt you for a new name as the image is applied to each different machine.

This is already a feature of SysPrep - have you tried it and had a problem...? Heath

well if you leave out the computer the name it's won't move on to complete the sysprep. So no matter what i have to put in a computer name for it to be able to finish the sysprep. I try so many thing but it doesn't work... I was thinking of some type of command to modified it or change something in the ini thing
