My wife has a laptop with Outlook, and my desktop also has our account info. I have a small home network using a cable router. I need to be able to sync the two email accounts. Actually they are the same account but the email comes into the desktop when I log onto Outlook, and sometimes it comes to her laptop when she logs on and my pc is off.

I tried to map drives but this wouldn't work

There is an option in Outlook where you can keep mail on the email server for a specific period of time. Check out Tools > Accounts > edit the mail account and on like the last tab there should be an option to keep the mail on the server for x amount of days. That way each time you open a different instance of Outlook, it goes out and searches for all new mail (ie mail that hasnt been downloaded in that instance) and it will download it, and leave it there to be downloaded on the other computer.

The only problem is keeping sent emails the same. If this is an issue, check out the briefcase. I'm not exactly sure how it works with Outlook, but its purpose is to sync files between computers.
