My virus definitions were corrupted, I tried to manually back date them and it didn't work. I uninstalled Symantec Antivirus Corporate version 8.1. Now when I try to reload it I get an unknown error. It says that it can not complete instalation. This error happens right when it begins to copy the files to the server. I have tried all suggestions on Symantec's website. I verified the server name is correct in the registry, I checked all of the Admin permissions, I tried to load it locally, I made sure terminal services weren't running. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

As elementary as this sounds, have you re-booted the server? I have rarely had issues when upgrading symantec from one version to another. But, I have had the same problem that you described. I had to reboot to reload the same version.

Thanks but I have rebooted the server - more than once. I am having other strange stuff happen now. All users can only print local documents - nothing from email or internet.

Is this just a file and print server? If you are able, make the install files and newest defs availble locally on the system. Unplug the Network cable and attempt to re-install. If you are successful, run a scan to detect and repair.

Did you un-install using the Symantec recommended method. I have had issues before with corrupted Symantec products and they don't un-install through Add/Remove programs correctly. There is a "fiery hoops" document which details un-installing and re-installing NAV (sorry don't recall the URL)
