Switching to VOIP, install card or use external voice gateway 1

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help. I have been inquiring about moving our phone lines to VoIP and i know i need to install a VoIP card in our LDK-50 system to do this. But my problem is the expense of getting a card installed is about €1400 (is this a good price?)compared to purchasing a Cisco voice gateway from our service provider for €300.

I was wondering if there are advantages to the card over the external gateway to justify the extra expense? Because it connects to our network would it enable easier programming/updating etc. using PC rather than through one of the phones.

Any info would be great.

The voip card gives you some ip trunks and/or ip extension
nothing else, what i know of.
for easy and fast programming you need a Ethernet card for the cpu

As abl2910 says, you will need the VOIB/VOIBE (VOIP) board in your ipLDK-50 to have LG IP phones (LIP phones) and/or IP trunks (e.g. SIP trunks).

But it is not just the VOIP board you need...

- Upgrade of firmware on th LDK-50. Minimum version 3.8 or 3.9. Check by [Trans/Pgm+72].

- SLOT empty for the VOIP board.

- LANU board to program data (optional).

- The processorboard must be equipped with ASMU piggy back board, and not the "old" PMU boards.

So - list what you have, and post it here, the I can sum up...

Hi doktor,

Only have version 3.7Bd, I do have a free slot for the board. Don't have the LANU but if i was getting the VOIP board i'd probably get one installed as well. As for the processor board i'm not sure which one it is.

I was really just seeing if the extra costs involved with the VOIP card was worth it. I'll probably just go with the gateway.

If you are in 3.7, it takes no hardware to upgrade to 3.8 or 3.9.
So infact you "only" need the VOIP board.
I would go for this solution, as the IP phones then can share voice mail, attendants and CO lines, as they are a part of your PBX.
So choosing the VOIP board gives you a centralized PBX for all users : analogue, digital and IP phones.
