Switch Utilization 100%

When I do a "Show System" on one of my Catalyst 5500 switches the traffic utilization is pegged at 100%. What could be the problem?

You might have a loop somewhere on your switch/network. You might have a Broadcast storm happening.

How do you check the same on a 3500, I am talking about the
backplane?
