Configuration Help.

I am getting ready to put in a new network with a core of 2 3750 G's stacked with 2 4948s and 3 3750Gs stacked. I am going to have multiple vlans probably 5-7. Does anyone have an idea how I should configure?

This is my idea. I was going to make the core the VTP server with trunk ports going both 4948s and a trunk port to the 3750G.

Will that work?

That will work fine . Tie the 2 two cores together . Make sure you make your spanning tree roots and secondary roots up on the core boxes . Trunk your links to the boxes down below and manually prune off any vlans you do not need running on those links , this is done on both sides of the links . The cores are the vtp servers and the boxes below would be clients . The layer 3 SVI's would be done on the 3750 core boxes useing hsrp for redundancy.

If you are stacking the 2 'Core' 3750G's then you won't need HSRP. However if you are having dual/redundant uplinks from your access switches to the 'Core' then you will have an STP loop. My recommendation would be to use EtherChannels in this situation.

My preferred approach would be Layer-3 everywhere, no Trunks anywhere. This way you eliminate STP and will have very fast failover (with OSPF or EIGRP). This requires the IP Services (EMI) IOS to be loaded on all the switches though.

Andy's way will work too along with the first idea . If the 3750 is stacked like he said it would not need hsrp just dual connect the switches . one to each module . If you use Rapid PVST+ for spanning tree , failover is also very fast usually less than 3 seconds .
