SVCHOST.EXE

I have recently installed windows 2000 pro onto my system. I have also installed norton firewall to protect me on the internet.

When windows loads to the desktop norton firewall wants to configure a rule for svchost.exe to use outbound access. I configure the rule to allow svchost.exe full access and then I receive a windows error message saying that svchost.exe has been shut down. After that all windows programs fail to run properly, like control panel, device manager and network properties.

Please help, this is really frustrating.

I had the a similiar problem accur it turned out to be a virus, also saw something about it in MS knowledge base.
