I've fdisked my hard drive and am trying to reload Win98. When it doesn't lock up on me!!, I'm getting an SUWIN APPLICATION ERROR. Can anyone tell me what this means and what I can do to fix it.

I've tried to use the system restoration cd but it wants an update version of win98 and I only have a full blown copy

tks

I dont know what that error is off the top of my head but try Microsoft's Knowledge Base, support.microsoft.com. You would be suprised the amount of adive given is from people who know about the Knowledge base resources.

I checked for curiousity sake
"SUWIN General Protection Fault" Error Messages During Windows 95 or Windows 98 Setup

PROBLEM
try to install Windows 95 or Windows 98 in a new folder or a clean hard disk, you may receive one or more of the following error messages:

SUWIN
An error has occurred in your application. If you choose ignore you should save your work in a new file. If you choose close, your application will terminate.
-or-

SUWIN caused a general protection fault in module KRNL386.EXE
The Reason can be:
This behavior can occur when any of the following conditions exist:
There are incorrect basic input/output system (BIOS) settings for a built-in peripheral device on your motherboard (for example, cache settings, CPU timing, hard disks, and so on).
Your computer has bad or mismatched random access memory (RAM) or cache (for example, if you are using EDO and non-EDO RAM, or you are using different RAM speeds).
The motherboard in your computer is not working properly.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, try to slow down your computer by changing the BIOS settings. For information about how to change these settings, consult the documentation that came with your computer or contact the hardware manufacturer.

WARNING: If you change the BIOS settings for your computer incorrectly, serious problems can occur.

NOTE: Make the following changes, one at a time. After each change, save the setting, quit the BIOS, and then try to run Setup. If one step does not resolve the problem, try the next step, and so on.
Modify the bus mastering setting.
Modify the externalor internal cache setting.
Modify your RAM setting.
Modify other settings that are specific to your BIOS and that contribute to the speed at which your computer runs.
Disable the Level 1 and Level 2 cache from the BIOS Setup tool for the duration of Setup.
Disable the Ultra DMA setting (if applicable) for the hard disk or CD-ROM drive. For information about how to change these settings, consult the documentation that is included with your computer.
If the error message still occurs after you perform these steps, the hardware may be damaged. Contact your hardware manufacturer for assistance.

Hard drives. Fdisk is a very popular and great way to start a new system. The only way to go I would say. Harddrives should be thoroughly checked with the manufacturers software. When you have the opprotunity to do so with a clean drive. They sometimes take a while to do the advance tests but its well worth knowing its a clean and properly working HD. Goto fdisk.com to find out more about fdisk utilities and I always use fdisk / mbr to get rid of posible boot sector problems. Follow this and you will get a clean install of your software.
1.Recertify HD first with OEM software(DL at website)
2.fdisk /mbr
3.fdisk
4.install software Let everything that have breath praise the Lord.

Ok, I also checked the Microsoft page and it is possible that speed could be a problem but...I don't have the documentation that came with the PC so I can't figure out how to change the bus mastering setting. When I go into BIOS on the MAIN tab the only options I can change are language and time. Any suggestions?

Also, I'm in the process of trying the Download for the OEM software in order to recertify the HD.
