SUS for Power Users

Anybody had any luck getting SUS to work for power users? We don't make our users admins here, but we can't seem to get SUS to work unless we do. Would really appreciate any help!!

How do you have the users trying to use SUS? In our facility we set it up in gpedit at the user's station as an admin. Point it to the SUS server and set up the policy. The service will run regardless of who is logged on.

We're using a domain policy in the active directory. So are you saying that you're using a local policy on the client machine or what? Not sure I'm following.

Though it sounds like just the thing!

You likely need to add the .ADM Group Policy additions to your clients.

We're using SUS through group policy, and NONE of our users is power user or admin on their local machine, not even our techs. It's working fine so far, but I'm not sure what's holding up your configuration.

(X) Configure Automatic Updates: EVERY DAY AT 0700, OPTION3

(X) Specifify Intranet MS Update Service Location: SERVERNAME

(X) No Auto-restart for scheduled automatic updates installation

( ) Delay restart for scheudled installations

Here's our GPO config:

Configure Automatic Updates enabled: Option 4, Scheduled install time of 22:00;

Specify Intranet MS Update service location enabled:

http://server,

http://server;

Reschedule Automatic Updates scheduled installations enabled: wait 10 minutes after startup

No Auto Restart disabled.


We have 8 sites with separate GPOs to configure the wks at each so they point to the local SUS server.
