Hi folks,

I have installed SUS on a Wk2 DC, it has syncronized sucessfully and I have approved the update.

We are using DNS so I have set the server name in the options section to the IP address of the server.

In the AD I have added a test PC to my SUS OU and have successfully added the wuau template.

The server address in the template has been set to and I have set it to auto download and prompt for install.

The test PC is a W2k, I have checked the registry to ensure the keys are there and all looks good. The windows update service is running and set to Auto.

The problem is the pc is still not pulling any updates.... I am at my wits end!!! Does the client check for updates straight after a restart? The only thing I think of is that somehow the servername is incorrect and the client simply can't find any updates but I don't know how to check this...

Has anyone got any advice?

Moocho thanks in advance!

Try setting the server address just to
If IIS is setup correctly then it should find it.

You need to check the windows update log on the client.

This will probably give you a clue.

Depending on your group policies etc and the account you using to access sus... Make sure that this account, internet explorer, options, connections , lan settings, that it isn't using the proxy server.

There is which might be of help.

SUS Server has a script to check the client to see what the Update setting is set to.

As "enbw" suggested there two text file located in the windows directory WindowsUpdate.txt and Windows Update.txt (winnt if win2000 ) they my shed some light.

Does the PC have the Automatic Updates service set to Automatic? I got tripped up on a few of my PCs with that when I rolled it out... Set it in Group Policy.

PS. I know you said you used registry keys but if you end up going with group policy, I found I had to send the client MSI file, set the Automatic Updates Service to Auto and all the other config in the same group policy.
