Surfing Issue 4

I just installed SBS2k3 with only 2 clients. Static IP address from Bellsouth. DHCP/DNS running from the new server.

I am unable to surf to the site

http://www.bellsouth.com

from the server or any other of the two computers on the newly created domain. The Workstations were able to go to this site before I put them on the domain.

I can surf any other site I can think of, just not

http://www.bellsouth.com.

Any thoughts?

Have you flushed the DNS cache? Both within the DNS server and on the client?

Thank you for repsonding, Mini. Let me see if I understand what you are wanting. By flushing the DNS cache you mean:

CMD: ipconfig /flushdns ?

Is there another place where I need to go to flush out DNS?

Have you setup DNS correctly?

Server ip settings for DNS should point to itself.

Client ip settings for DNS should point to server ip.

Are you able to resolve (nslookup)

http://www.bellsouth.com?

If not, then we know it's a DNS issue. If you can resolve, then we might need to start looking somewhere else instead of DNS. Is this your ISP? If so, I'd get them involved.

Yes, Bellsouth is the ISP. I have been talking to them for ages now and they claim that all is okay with them. I just find it very strange that I can surf anything I can think of yet I'm unable to surf to

tfg13 is right. If you use "ping bellsouth.net" and get an IP address, then DNS is likely working correctly (we'll assume that the IP address is correct). If you don't get an IP address, it's a DNS issue, and could be something as simple as a forwarder that's not working.
