Gets to the "Starting Windows 2000" line in the ext Mode part of the install and reboots...

P6DBE is an Intel 440BX chipset, Mobo is rev 3, and BIOS is rev 3.1 (latest from SuperMicro site). I have installed 2xPII/350MHz, 2x64MB PC100 SDRAM, 2x1.2GB IDE Hard drives, NEC 4x CDRom, ATI Rage 3D AGP video card, all other cards removed (was IBM 10/100 PCI NIC and Creative Labs PCI CT-xxxx)...

System works perfectly under W98. All components (except mobo) worked in other (older) computers with W2K Pro, WXP Pro, and/or Server 2K3...

Have tried from CD, downloaded a new copy from MSDN, used disks from MAKEBOOT... same results... No W2K GUI...

Looking to upgrade the wife's PC while the mum-in-law is in town, please help!!

Have you got the latest BIOS?

Are there special drivers needed for W2K?

That's kind of an older motherboard... would it make sense to use a newer one? (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

Setnaffa is an MCSE-2k3 (working on Messaging now) with a few other certs, too...

To be honest, i dont know much about win2k, but when i have trouble attempting to install win98 or win xp, here is what i do and it pretty much always works.
I use the mfgrs diagnostics from a floppy, after starting out with a win98 boot disk. I run the part that writes zeros to the hard drive. Then i reboot with win98se boot disk and use fdisk to fdisk and format fat32.
With win98 i all all set, for win xp, i just let win xp format the disk NTFS and all goes well.

You might want to consider trying that out.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips

Thanks!! I'll try that!!
