I just hope Sun doesn't take a simple, fast, and very manageable database engine like MySQL and bloat the hell out of it like Java.
The last experience I have with Sun is when they bought SeeBeyond and their interface engine eGate. In eGate, you could program in Java or Monk. I chose Monk (based on scheme and lisp). Now, the newest version... JCAPS, of course, does not include Monk. I have to rewrite everything in a language I can't stand. It has pushed me to start my own engine using PHP and PERL. I was going to use MySQL as the backend, but now I want to see what happens with it first.
Java's not too bad, just sun are a bit too into it !!
The thing the made me smile about the article was James Gosling talks about tuning the JDBC provider (so what !)
and the new Sun processor. Correct me if I'm wrong but in general isn't MYsql front ended by php perl etc and the server workd is moving very hard towards intel (cheap, chearfull and scaleabel)
