I'm using a Sun GDM-20E20 Monitor (manufactured in July of 1996, I know it's old but I got it free). This is the monitor for my Linux box, and until recently it worked just fine. But about 3 weeks ago I would come in to do some work and the screen would be black (as if the screensaver had blanked it), but when I moved the mouse or touched the keyboard the light on the monitor would go from amber to green but the screen wouldn't return. I figured maybe the monitor was hot, so I turned it off for an hour and turned it back on but nothing happened. I left the room and came back a couple of hours later and I'd have my screen again. Well about a week ago the monitor went black and hasn't come back since. A friend at work said that this type of monitor may have something I can adjust that will get the screen back. He wasn't sure what the adjustment was called, and I'm NOT a hardware (esp. monitor) guy, I'm a Unix sysadmin. But if anyone has any suggestions I might try to fix this 21" monitor I would appreciate it. Please let me know if there is information I didn't provide, but also understand if it's not information I can 1) find on the back label of the monitor or query from the system (I'm vnc'd into the box from my windows box) I won't be able to get the info. The monitor was given to me about a year and a half ago. Thanks for any help you can provide. Yes I've checked my cable connections.

An infinite number of monkey typing at an infinite number of keyboards will eventually populate the internet.

The monitor is for all practical purposes dead.
