Rather than placing these in seperate posts.. here is a summary of the things I'm "stuck" on now:

Running Vista RTM x64 version:

-----------------
Free space indicator in status bar not there in Explorer anymore:

I guess this one is obvious.. but I dont see anyone talking about it...

You used to be able to see the free space on a drive if you opened explorer in the status bar at the bottom.. now it seems this is gone.

Anyone found a work around or other solution.. other than right clicking the drive and doing properties.

Internet (DNS) Connectivity suddenly not working Vista RTM

I'm having a problem where I can ping addresses via ping and get replies.. but attempts to connect to them in IE7 or even things like outlook or messenger are not connecting.

This happened out of the blue.. everything was working fine with my Vista x64 RTM build then bang.. internet issues.

I've tried diagnosing the issue, unchecking ipv6, looking on the net for solutions but nothing so far.

I use manual ips in my settings, no software firewall and I've turned off AV to be safe.. all works fine from another xp machine.

Anyone run into this?

-------------------------------

Power Management issue with UPS (in battery mode ok.. restore power, shuts off) :

I've double check the power management settings in Vista but this keeps occurring. I have an APC ups hooked up via USB.. if I pull the plug on the unit to test the backup power remaining.. it shows 16 minutes remain till (hibernation). I have the critical setting set at 5% and to hibernate.

Once I reconnect power, the PC then shuts off for no apparent reason (not abruptly, it just does a shutdown)...

I cant seem to find a reason why.. anyone else ran into this?

----------------------------

Vista and login scripts with 2003 server (mapped drives not mapping only manually)

Has anyone run into this.. we have a 2003 server Active Directory and a login script that runs on login.. this login script uses the net use command to map network drives from the policy folder on the server mapping ie: \\SYSVOL\domain.local\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\USER\Scripts\Logon

For some reason the mapped drives don't map on login.. the only way this works is if I goto the above location and double click on the batch file that does the mapping.. I find this very odd...

I'm not sure if this implies that login scripts for Vista should be run from a "vista style" group policy (if there is one.. perhaps the newer admx files need to be used etc?)..

I've only run into one other person who has noted this so far.

----------------------

Vista RTM and snap-in for ADUC (Active Directory Users and computers)

Is there a snapin out there that will work in Vista to manage the ADUC for 2003 server? I haven't been able to find/get one working as of yet.

Thanks

------------------------
Administrative Rights and "a program needs your permission to continue" :

Perhaps this is common knowledge, but I can't find alot of information on the new access control features of Vista....

When I attempt to run certain programs I get the "program needs your permission" request box..

I've tried checking off run as administrator and even setting full rights to the account (which is in the administrators group by default).. either way I'm always prompted... I think the reason is because that program isn't "signed" properly and the only way around is to turn off Access control completely.. but I dont want to turn off access control completely.

A similar thing happens with a program in my start menu.. only with Defender.. it blocks the application, the application is listed as "unclassified" but there doesnt appear to be a way to enable or change the classification.

Similar issues occur on transfering and moving files and the only way to get around this was to actually add my userid to the security permissions with full control (I guess this is defeating the purpose of access control?).

Still.. I would think if my account is administrative account I could install applications without having to "run as administrator"... any thoughts?

-----------------------------

Vista Backup selecting individual files not possible/ complete backup issue..

Is it not possible to select individual files and directories in the backup program... Without this feature.. this has to be the worst backup system ever created.. as an Admin this means 3rd party is the only solution and right now only Acronis will work.

Also.. when I try to do the complete pc backup option.. it will not let me uncheck my d drive for some reason (I think it thinks it is a system drive), I haven't been able to find a way around this, so for now I use Acronis, which works well by itself.

--------------------------------

Windows Mobile Device Center Missing or wont synch outlook contacts:

I've downloaded the beta3 version for x64 from the net.. i can get the device to connect.. offer to browse my PPC (wm5)'s contents.. but can't figure out how to synchronize contacts and other Outlook information etc.

---------------------------

Remote Desktop Credentials won't save/store on a Vista machine (part of a domain) when trying to connect to remote vista machine:

When I store the credentials for my Vista Ultimate RTM machine on
another Vista machine I get this error message when it tries to
connect:

"your system administrator does not allow the use of saved credentials
to log on"

I was assuming this is something I would need to edit in gpedit.msc on
the remote machine.. but I can't seem to find the setting that I should
change..

Anyone have any thoughts.

Webcam (web based streaming software) for Vista (x64)?

Anyone know of an alternative to WebCamXP that will run on x64.. I cant get WebCamXP to run on x64 properly.

------------------------

SharePoint 2003 sites prompting for password on Vista x64 joined to Domain:

For some reason in Vista .. when I try to connect to our intranet document libraries (not the individual pages).. and try to open documents on Sharepoint Portal server 2003.. it will prompt for credentials.. If i enter them the docs open fine.. but this should not be happening.

Free space indicator in status bar.

Are you seeing the "Detail Pane" above the old Status bar? This is showing me size and free space of a highlighted drive icon.

Internet (DNS) Connectivity suddenly not working Vista RTM.

Have you tried cleaning out Temporary Internet Files etc?

Running Netsh Winsock reset from a Command Prompt?

Running IE7 with No Add-ons from System Tools?

I think you should split your questions up into one a thread otherwise the replies generated are going to form a mess and be hard to follow.

Free space:

Yeah I see that when you select a drive, but I miss seeing the indication even when browsing subfolders.

Connectivity:

Its not limitted to IE, all Internet connectivity programs cant connect, I havent tried the Netsh command.. though for now I did a system restore back 1 day and its working.. so I will try to recreate the situation.. I suspect its related to a windows update as crazy as that seems.

Thanks again

Free space:

That is by design, I believe. You do have the mouse over balloon tip to read the file or folder size.
