I'm looking for some suggestions as to which cablemodem VPN router would be good for home use. Basically what I'm trying to do is to allow a few people onto my home LAN securely. I don't have much experience with VPN's and I'm hoping to get something that'll be fairly easy to setup and use. Above all, security is very important to me and the ability to allow multiple tunnels to my LAN. Thanks for any help.

The more you spend, the better you get. Having said this, try a Netgear FVS318 they work ok and don't cost too much.

If you don't need more than 2 simultaneous tunnels, the ZyXEL Prestige 334w is around $85).

How many tunnels will you need?

If you get a Netgear, DLink, Linksys, etc. - buy it from someplace with a liberal return policy, and beat it hard for a month. If it survives, you've got a winner.

JimPletcher, I'm looking for around 3-5 simultaneous tunnels. I tried the Dlink DI-804HV, but it lacked security. I've also heard that the Netopia 3381ENT might be good. Seems like the ZyXel may not have enough tunnels available.

I didn't mind the Netopia3XXX series, but the last ones I saw were DSL or cable modem plus router (or ISDN modem plus router) and you usually don't want to use anything but the modem provided by your broadband host...they have new products with only routers?

The Netopia R910 is a little more than I want to spend. I think I might give the netgear FVS318 a try. Thanks everybody.
