Suggestion for Large Report

I would appreciate a helpful suggestion to a problem I am facing. Management wants a report that tells how many of our transactions were processed manually vs. automatically for the last year. They want it broken down by month and a Total. This involves reading 1.5 million records from a database table and it takes quite a while to process. What would be the most efficient way of writing this? Monthly subreports and a Total Subreport linking to those subreports? Any suggestion is appreciated.

There is no benefit in using subreports here. simply stick to using 1 report with groups and totals.

If you can preprocess on the server and filter your data into a temp table and use this as the source for your report then yhis would no doubt help.
