We have a volume customer who is replacing Nortels at their retail stores, all of which pipe music through their overhead speakers when an overphead page is not being initiated. For the IP Office, the paging connection is on a station port set to paging speaker because the desire is to simulcast pages on phone speakers.
What we find is in stores that have really old amps that don't have the auto-mute capabilities newer ones do, we run into trouble. We've been trying Bogen VAR-1's, but end up with situations where the music volume drops down, but not out completely, and if the user pauses music comes back up. I don't believe a wmt1a will work in this situation, so is the next option going to have to be something like a TAMB2, or I've seen the suggestion of a UTI-1? Even at stores where the amps are newer and can mute (and we don't use a pre-amp in these cases), we do find the music comes back up eventually when there is a long enough pause and no hang up.
I have a feeling I know what the answer will be here, and of course, cost of the solution may come into play here for the customer. Thank you.
